Why Would A Hair Straightener Have ... - Beauty, Health and Fitness

Hair irons come in different sizes to suit all the different types of hair styles. The different widths of plate can be utilised for styling hair to get a different range of curls, waves and flicks. Hair salons have always had a need to have hair straighteners at different widths to enable them to style all the different types of hair that may walk through their door.

A hair salon can typically have a minimum of over a hundred clients in a month if the salon caters for both male and female clients it will have a range of men and women with various hair types. If the salon is a barber?s it will generally have shorter hair visitors. Hair stylists work on time, time is money to a hair salon and most salons build time as a factor when devising their prices.

There are two main areas for hair styling that the size of styling plates becomes a factor. If for instance a client has very long and very thick hair it takes longer with a hair iron which has a standard typical size plate around 20mm to 25mm wide. If this hair is styled by a plate double the size obviously this reduces the styling time in half.

Healthy hair straightening is also dependent how many times the hair irons plate passes over the hair to straighten it. The hair is susceptible to more damage the more the plate comes in to contact with the cuticle. If the wrong size plate is used overworking of the hair occurs causing damage. Hair straightening is all about the less times the iron has to pass over the hair the better.

The other area is thicker fuller hair this type has a naturally occurring wider more rigid cuticle. For this type a higher temperature will be needed to penetrate the hair enough to enable straightening. For best results a combination of temperature and correct plate size is recommended.

One of the best parts of various plate sizes are the styling possibilities. With a wide paddle plate with thicker fuller hair large volume relaxed curls can be created. The larger plate can also be used to give a large size natural wave to the bottom of the hair or a flick out. Plates around twenty millimetres wide can be used to detail longer thicker hair adding the waves, flicks or curl to control certain areas.

In more recent years larger plate irons have become more popular with the rise in the use of hair extensions. After fitting extensions are maintained with a larger paddle brush specially developed to be used with them. The hair straightener with the larger plate can be utilised alongside the use of the brush to great effect, allowing easy quicker styling.

In a society that is more than ever time critical the need for versatility has never been more apparent. If a hair iron has interchangeable plates it makes way for more attachments in the future.
