Smokey the cat's 68dB purr confirmed as 'world's ... - Pet Insurance

Smokey the cat?s 68dB purr confirmed as ?world?s loudest?

A cat with a loud purr that has been compared to the sound of a vacuum cleaner has had her notable aural talent recognised by Guinness World Records.

Smokey the cat?s purr has been confirmed by officials as the loudest purr of any domestic cat globally.

The 12-year-old peaks at 67.7dB, which is pretty impressive when compared against a lawnmower (90dB) and a car horn (110dB).

Owner Ruth Adams will have even more incentive to pay for cat insurance, if she wants to maximise the chances of Smokey retaining her record-breaking crown.

Adams noted that Smokey still continues to shock and awe family and friends with his noisy expressions.

She added: ?It?s either adorable or annoying, depending on what mood you?re in, and it?s very loud.

?When I?m on the phone friends ask what the noise is and they can?t believe it is coming from a cat.?

Smokey falls a fair way short of her canine equivalent though.

A German shepherd called Daz from Finsbury Park currently holds the record for the loudest bark, measured at a whopping 108dB.
