Rafael Marquez Suspended: Red Bulls Suspend Mexican Defender After Critical Comments

HARRISON, N.J. -- New York Red Bulls defender Rafa Marquez will miss Saturday night's match vs. Portland after being suspended by coach Hans Backe on Friday.

Marquez was critical of teammates after Wednesday's 3-1 loss to Real Salt Lake at home.

A designated player, Marquez has no goals and just four assists this season, as the Red Bulls have stumbled to a 7-7-15 record. They were in fifth place in the Eastern Conference as Friday night's action began.
