Antelope buck impolitely disrupts mountain bike race - Sports Blog ...

I know what you're thinking. But really, if someone invited me to partake in a mountain bike race across the wild plains of South Africa, this is likely my first worry. Of course, I probably wouldn't picture a Red Hartebeest at first. I didn't even know what that was until now. My imaginary attacker is more like a raging lion or other giant killer of the attack cat variety. Also, helmet or not, in my nightmare scenario that thing takes my head clean off the shoulders. I don't feel a thing. Just blackness. ANYWAY. That's not what happened.

What really happened was 17-year-old Evan van der Spuy was in a mountain bike race at Albert Dam Falls, South Africa when a Red Hartebeest stone cold blindsided him with a Scott Stevens-like open plains hit. These animals can weigh up to more than 300 lbs and apparently hate cyclists (insert Rob Ford joke here). Something tells me this was a bet? -- "Guys, guys, seriously, see that human over there? Check this out!" -- and the Hartebeest's friends were sitting in the bushes laughing their antlers off the whole time.
