Mozilla releases Firefox Marketplace for Android

Mozilla has released the preview edition of its new Firefox Marketplace for android developers.

Featuring several showcase apps in the areas of games, productivity and news and media that allow users to browse, install and use, the new Marketplace is available in Aurora development version of Firefox.

Mozilla said that the new app will allow users to get feedback on their apps as the Marketplace grows and progresses.

"At Mozilla, we develop in the open and this initial release will help lead the way for future Marketplace Aurora, Beta and Firefox OS releases in 2013," Mozilla said.

Initially, the Marketplace can be used for free apps, while the firm is planning to develop its store into a channel that allows developers to build distribute and monetise apps that deploy Web technologies including HTML, JavaScript and CSS.

The first apps offered for testing include Distant Orbit, Jauntly, Soundcloud and Twitter.

The app page features only a single screenshot, a description and a small space that allows users to write reviews.

Recently, Mozilla had taken its new Firefox 16 offline, a day following release, claiming that the new browser could allow a malicious website to capture web history.
